Two-Tone Body Colors

Gone are the days when a home had to be a uniform color to fit into the neighborhood. Homeowners are, more and more, opting to go with a “two-tone” approach to their exteriors. What does that mean exactly? Choosing two body colors gives you the ability to highlight certain aspects of your architecture and make pieces of your home pop when they might otherwise get lost in the background.

Dark & Navy Blue

Once you've chosen a body-color, what do you do about things like shutters and doors? Truly, the sky's the limit when it comes to that aspect of home color theory. We'd suggest that, whatever you do, you do it consistently.

• Match: match your shutters and entry door color to that of your siding

• Complement: choose a shutter and door color that complement your siding color. Is your siding a light blue, like the sky? Then we’d suggest finding colors that can also be found in the skylight or dark greys (clouds), other shades of blue, or even a sunny yellow.

• Contrast: if you love to make a statement, then tastefully contrasting your shutters and entry door with your siding can work as well. Think of something like brick and taupe, blue with black, or green and tan.
